  • Therapy provides a safe, non‑judgmental space to explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences with the support of a trained therapist. It can help you better understand yourself, process difficult experiences, and develop healthier ways to cope with life’s challenges.

Therapy can be helpful for concerns such as anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, grief, relationship issues, faith transitions, and life changes. Many people also use therapy to improve communication, build self‑confidence, and support personal growth.

Some benefits of therapy may include:

    • Greater self‑understanding and clarity

    • Improved coping skills for stress and anxiety

    • Healthier relationships and communication

    • Increased self‑esteem and emotional resilience

    • Support in navigating life transitions and challenges

Therapy is a collaborative process, and its benefits grow as you actively engage and apply what you learn in your daily life.

  • Clients can expect the duration of mental health therapy to vary depending on their unique circumstances and treatment goals. There is no set timeline as each individual's experience is personal and different. Therapy length can range from a few sessions to several months or even years. The frequency of sessions, progress made, and the complexity of issues being addressed all contribute to the length of therapy. It's important for clients to communicate openly with their therapist about their expectations and goals to work together towards their desired outcomes.

We like to remind clients to have patience and empathy with themselves when it comes to the length of healing. Especially when it comes to trauma. Alissa like to say "remember you have a lifetime of learning and living with/from that trauma, it's ok and normal for it to take a while to relearn and heal from those traumas."

  • During your initial therapy assessment, you can expect a safe, confidential, and supportive space where your therapist will focus on getting to know you and understanding your needs. You’ll talk about what brings you to therapy, your current concerns, and what you hope to get out of the process.

A strong therapeutic relationship is an important part of therapy. Your therapist will take time to explore whether working together feels like a good fit and to begin building trust and comfort.

It’s normal to feel nervous or unsure about starting therapy. Therapists understand this and approach the first session with care, compassion, and curiosity. You’re welcome to ask questions, share at your own pace, and take time getting comfortable.

The assessment may also include brief questionnaires or screenings to help guide care and tailor therapy to best support your goals.

 Policies

  • Payment and/or copays are due at the time of session. We accept most major credit cards. Our services are also eligible for HSA pay.

A credit card must be on file before the first session. All clients will be required to enroll in auto pay with the credit card on file.

  • If you are unable to attend your therapy session, please remember to cancel with in 24 hours notice. There will be no cancelation fee if cancelled before 24 hours prior to your session. You will be responsible for the entire session fee if cancellation is less than 24 hours.

If you are more then 15 mins late to your session, with no attempt to contact me, this will be considered a no-show and you will be charged the full session fee. These are necessary because a time commitment is made to you and is held exclusively for you.

If you are late for a session, you may lose some of that session time.

  • In the event of a genuine emergency necessitating the cancellation of a scheduled mental health therapy appointment at Serenity Springs Counseling and Wellness, clients are permitted one free cancellation per calendar year. A genuine emergency is defined as a sudden, unexpected situation that requires immediate attention and prevents the client from attending their scheduled session.

Examples of genuine emergencies may include severe illness, accidents, giving birth, car accidents, or unexpected hospitalizations. Emergencies will not include scheduling conflicts, work conflicts, lack of childcare, forgetting to put your appointment in your calendar, etc.

Clients are required to notify their therapist as soon as possible to inform them of the emergency and to reschedule the appointment for a later date.

  • Confidentiality is one of the most important components between a client and psychotherapist. Successful therapy requires a high degree of trust with highly sensitive subject matter that is usually not discussed anywhere but the therapist’s office. Every therapist should provide a written copy of their confidential disclosure agreement, and you can expect that what you discuss in session will not be shared with anyone. This is called “Informed Consent”. Sometimes, however, you may want your therapist to share information or give an update to someone on your healthcare team (you’re your Physician, Naturopath, Attorney), but by law your therapist cannot release this information without obtaining your written permission.

However, state law and professional ethics require therapists to maintain confidentiality except for the following situations:

    * Suspected past or present abuse or neglect of children, adults, and elders to the authorities, including Child Protection and law enforcement, based on information provided by the client or collateral sources.
    * If the therapist has reason to suspect the client is seriously in danger of harming him/herself or has threated to harm another person.

  • Due to the importance of client confidentiality and the need to avoid dual relationships, we do not accept friend or contact requests from current or former clients on any social networking site (Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc.).

We hold the belief that adding clients as friends or contacts on these sites can jeopardize client confidentiality and both parties' privacy. It may also blur the boundaries of the therapeutic relationship. Clients are encouraged to bring up any questions or concerns about this during sessions for further discussion.
